The relationship between religion and government in the Chrysalids allows the government to have even more power over its subjects. From the stand point of a agricultural society, religion is an advantageous set of beliefs. If you have belief that there is a higher power that is always watching over everyone, people are less likely to break rules set by society. In the modern day, the advantages are different since we are one world under CCTV.

The government exploits religion in the Chrysalids since they have complete power over it. Different characters have different biases towards following the government or the religion, even though they are almost the same. For instance, Mr. Strorm (David's father), has a bias towards the religion side. An example of this is when he got into an argument with the officials because of his great horses. He also has an ongoing disagreement with him throughout the first half of the book. On the other hand, David's aunt seems to only care for what the government thinks, as shown by when she asks to borrow Petra to forge records of normality. In conclusion, religion and government do not go well together.
