Skeleton riding spider?

I was just playing Minecraft, and I was fighting a creeper. Then, on the top of a hill, I saw a skeleton on top of a spider. It came down to me and it turned out that it was legitimately riding the spider. Its legs were out to the side, so it is not as if it was just standing. Weird.
