Chrysalids: A History of superstition

Even though we think of superstition in the Chrysalids as strange and extreme, it allows us to take an outside look at our society. We are not actually that different. The Chrysalids is merely a more exaggerated version of the modern superstition. The organic food craze, and the fear of "chemicals" are all modern day versions of the fear of mutations from the chrysalids. For both of these, it is necessary for people to be misinformed about the subject matter. If they knew about what they were talking about, they would see sense. When people think that "organic" food is healthy, they don't know that there are a lot of organic things that will kill you. Fear of chemicals is especially dim witted seeing as everybody and almost everything that you will ever touch will be made out of chemicals. Fear of mutants does not make sense either because mutations are what made us different from apes. Mutation is the process of evolution. In conclusion, I ask you, are we really that different from the people in the Chrysalids?
